How to use Snaperie

Everything you need to capture, label, organize, and export your field research. Can't find what you need? Email support@snaperie.com

Overview

Snaperie is a field research tool built for product designers, trend researchers, and buyers. Walk a trade show floor, photograph products, speak labels as you shoot, and export a polished PowerPoint deck before you leave.

The app has five tabs:

TabWhat it does
CollectionsCreate and browse your research sessions
CaptureCamera + voice labeling + photo import
OrganizeTag photos, edit photos, filter, reorder items
TeamShare collections and collaborate with team members
ExportGenerate a branded PowerPoint deck

Creating Collections

A collection is one research session — a trade show visit, a store walk, a season. Each collection holds items (products) and their photos.

Create a collection

  1. Go to the Collections tab
  2. Tap the + button (bottom right)
  3. Give it a name, date, and optional location
  4. Select one or more categories (these determine which tags are available)
  5. Tap Create

Quick start from Capture

If you have no collections yet, tapping the camera icon on the Capture tab will instantly create a timestamped collection so you can start shooting right away.

Tip Name collections by event and season — "MICAM Fall 2027" or "Coterie Sep 2026" — so they're easy to find later.

Categories & Tags

Categories are tag templates. When you assign a category to a collection, its tags are copied in — giving you a ready-made labeling system for that product type.

Built-in categories

  • Footwear
  • Handbags
  • Jewelry
  • Swimwear / Resort
  • Eyewear
  • Beauty
  • Interior Design
  • Apparel

Each category includes specific tags (e.g., Footwear has Heel, Toe, Sole, Material) plus 7 universal cross-tags: Trend, Mood, Competitor, Season, Material Story, Color Story, and Key Detail.

Multi-category collections

You can assign multiple categories to one collection. Tags are merged and deduplicated — so a "Coterie" collection with Footwear + Apparel gets all tags from both, without repeats.

Editing tags

Open a collection, tap the menu (...) button, then Edit Tags. From here you can rename tags, change colors, reorder, delete, or add new ones. Changes sync across all collections sharing the same category.

Capture

The Capture tab is your camera. Select a collection, then start shooting.

Taking photos

  1. Select or create a collection
  2. Tap the shutter button to photograph
  3. Each photo is saved to the current item
  4. Tap + New Item when you move to the next product

Importing from camera roll

Tap the photo icon (bottom right of the capture controls) to select images from your photo library. Imported photos are grouped into the current item.

Switching collections

Tap the collection name at the top of the capture screen to switch between collections or create a new one without leaving the camera.

Tip Tap Done when you finish capturing to jump straight to the collection detail view, where you can review and tag your photos.

Voice Labels

Voice labels let you describe a product hands-free while you shoot. The transcription is saved with the photo and used for automatic tagging.

How to use

  1. Tap the mic button — it turns red and shows "Listening..."
  2. Speak naturally: "Cognac leather loafer chunky lug sole"
  3. Tap the mic again to stop, or take a photo — recording stops automatically
  4. The transcript appears above the viewfinder

Auto-tagging

Snaperie reads your voice label and matches keywords against the collection's tags using fuzzy matching. Say "material" while shooting in a Footwear collection and the Material tag is applied automatically.

Editing voice labels

In the item detail view, long-press any photo to edit its voice label. Updating the label re-runs auto-tagging.

Tip Voice recognition works on-device when possible — no WiFi needed. Perfect for trade show floors with unreliable connectivity.

Organize

The Organize tab gives you two views: a collection browser and a filtered photo grid.

Collection browser

The default view lists all collections with an untagged count. Tap one to see its items organized by tag buckets and a reorderable item list.

Tag buckets

Horizontal cards at the top of each collection show how many photos are tagged with each label. Tap a bucket to see just those photos. An "Untagged" bucket shows photos that still need attention.

Filtering across collections

Tap the Filter button to filter all your photos by tag, collection, or date range. Active filters appear as dismissable chips. Tap "Clear All" to reset.

Reordering items

In a collection, hold and drag items to reorder them. This order is preserved in your export.

Tagging Photos

Tags are color-coded labels that categorize your photos. Each photo can have multiple tags.

Single photo tagging

Open any photo in the item detail view. The tag chips appear at the bottom. Tap a tag to toggle it on or off. Tap "Clear" to remove all tags from that photo.

Batch tagging

  1. Open a collection and tap Select
  2. Tap photos to select them (or "Select All")
  3. Tap the Tag button in the toolbar
  4. Toggle tags on or off for all selected photos at once

Moving photos

In select mode, tap Move to transfer selected photos to a different collection. Tags are cleared since the target collection may use different categories.

Photo Editing

Snaperie includes a built-in photo editor so you can refine your field shots without leaving the app. All edits are non-destructive until you tap Save.

Opening the editor

  1. Open any photo in the item detail view
  2. Tap the Edit button (pencil icon)
  3. The editor opens with two tabs: Exposure and Crop

Exposure adjustments

The Exposure tab has three sliders:

SliderRangeWhat it does
Exposure−2.0 to +2.0Overall light level (like EV compensation)
Brightness−0.5 to +0.5Lifts or darkens midtones
Contrast0.5 to 1.5Sharpens or flattens tonal range

Changes are previewed in real time. Tap Reset to return all sliders to their defaults.

Cropping

  1. Switch to the Crop tab
  2. Tap Crop Photo
  3. Drag the white corner handles to adjust the crop area
  4. Tap Apply Crop to commit, or Cancel Crop to discard

You can crop and adjust exposure in the same session — exposure filters are re-applied after a crop.

Saving

Tap Save in the top right to overwrite the original photo with your edits. Tap Cancel to discard all changes.

Tip Trade show lighting is often harsh. A quick exposure pull (−0.5) and contrast boost (+0.2) can make photos look dramatically better in your exported deck.

Sharing Photos

Share your collection photos directly from Snaperie to Messages, Pinterest, AirDrop, email, or any app that supports iOS sharing.

Share all photos in a collection

  1. Open a collection from the Collections tab
  2. Tap the share button (square with arrow) in the action bar at the bottom
  3. All photos in the collection are loaded and the iOS share sheet opens
  4. Choose your destination: Messages, AirDrop, Pinterest, Save to Files, etc.

Share selected photos

To share only specific photos, enter Select mode first, choose the photos you want, then use the share button. Only your selected photos will be included.

Tip Sharing to Pinterest is a great way to build mood boards from your field research. AirDrop is the fastest way to send photos to your laptop for further editing.

Export

Export generates a professional PowerPoint (.pptx) deck from your collection. Photos are organized by tag, labeled, and formatted with your brand colors.

How to export

  1. Go to the Export tab
  2. Select a collection
  3. Optionally configure Branding (colors + logo)
  4. Tap Export to PowerPoint
  5. When the deck is ready, the share sheet opens — save to Files, AirDrop, email, etc.

Export requires an internet connection. Photos are compressed and uploaded to generate the deck, then the finished .pptx is downloaded back to your device.

Tip Name your collection well — it becomes the filename of your exported deck.

Team Collaboration

The Team tab lets you share collections with colleagues in real time using iCloud. Everyone on the team sees the same photos, tags, and updates instantly.

Requirements

  • An active Team plan subscription (up to 6 seats)
  • All team members must be signed into iCloud on their devices

Sharing a collection

  1. Go to the Team tab
  2. Tap a collection from the list
  3. An invitation sheet opens — send the invite link via Messages, email, or AirDrop

Shared with Me

Collections that others have shared with you appear in the Shared with Me section. Changes sync automatically — new photos, tags, and edits appear in real time.

Free plan

If you're on the free or Individual plan, the Team tab shows a preview of collaboration features with an option to upgrade. Tap Upgrade to Team to view subscription options.

Snaperie appears in the iOS share sheet so you can save images directly from anywhere — screenshots, Safari, Instagram, Photos, or any app.

Every subscription starts with a 14-day free trial. You won't be charged until the trial ends. If you cancel before the trial is up, you won't be charged at all. The free trial is managed entirely by Apple through the App Store.

How to subscribe

  2. Tap Subscription
  3. Choose a plan and tap the price button
  4. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password

Restoring purchases

If you reinstall Snaperie or switch devices, go to Account > Subscription and tap Restore Purchases. Your plan will be re-activated instantly.

Troubleshooting

Camera says "Camera access required"

Snaperie needs camera permission. Go to Settings > Snaperie on your iPhone and enable Camera access. The camera preview also doesn't work in the iOS Simulator — test on a real device.

Voice labels aren't transcribing

Make sure you've granted both Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions in Settings > Snaperie. If the transcription is slow, try speaking closer to the mic.

Export fails or times out

Export requires an internet connection. If the server is waking up from sleep, the first export may take up to 60 seconds. Try again if it times out. Large collections (100+ photos) take longer to upload.

Photos aren't showing up

If photos from the share extension don't appear, force-quit and reopen Snaperie. The database syncs when the app launches.

Tags disappeared after editing

If you delete a tag in Edit Tags, it's removed from all photos in that collection and any sibling collections sharing the same category. This can't be undone.

Crop looks wrong or offset

This was fixed in a recent update. Make sure you're running the latest version of Snaperie. The crop tool now correctly handles photos taken in any orientation (portrait, landscape, upside-down).

Team tab says "Upgrade to Team"

Team collaboration requires an active Team plan subscription. Tap Upgrade to Team to view plan options. If you've already subscribed, try tapping Restore Purchases in Account > Subscription.

Shared collection not syncing

Make sure both you and your team member are signed into iCloud and have an active internet connection. Shared collections use CloudKit — changes may take a few seconds to propagate. Try pulling down to refresh.
